Trips

Niner United is passionate about traveling and we have some awesome trips planned for this year!

Spring Break Mission Trip

March 5 – 12. St Mary, Jamaica.

Apply here: https://ninerunited.breezechms.com/form/springbreak2022

Niner United mission trips are unique in that we do not force our views or attitude on others, instead our students experience how God is already at work in the lives of others.

In St. Mary, Jamaica we will work with our mission partners who have are doing amazing work by empowering their local community through:

    • Environmental conservation and care of God’s creation
    • Ministry with and tutoring children and youth in poverty
    • Microfinancing and social enterprise with local businesses
    • Offering free medical clinics
    • Developing sustainable farming and agricultural practices

Our mission partners provide a secure and pleasant retreat location in St. Mary, on the breath-taking northern shore, away from the more intimidating areas like Kingston and away from the tourists.

Passports – Passports are required. The processing time is 8-11 weeks for those who do not have passports.

COVIDAll travelers must be fully vaccinated. Also, both Jamaica and the U.S. require a negative COVID test within 72 hours of flight meaning testing will have to take place before the departure to Jamaica and while in Jamaica before re-entering the U.S. This will cost up to $100 per person.

Mission & TravelAfter we arrive in Jamaica, we will go to church on Sunday and learn about the mission and culture. Monday – Thursday we will volunteer with children’s programs, social enterprises that are ministry supported, and depending on the need have opportunities to volunteer in their clinics. Friday is an excursion day, and we return to Charlotte Saturday.

Lodging & FoodOur accommodations include a pool, oceanfront views, authentic Jamaican dishes, 24 hour security, and hotel-like amenities. Wi-fi is sparse, however.

PricingThe actual trip costs $1,500 but your UNC Charlotte student price is $900! A $50 deposit is due within one week of being accepted, $150 is due by January 21, and the remaining funds are due February 1. This includes airfare, ground transportation, lodging, meals, supplies, and the price of the excursion. It does not include travel insurance (which is necessary), the COVID tests, food while in airports, and personal or optional purchases.

Requirements – If you are not already active in Niner United – become active in order to go with us to Jamaica. Make Niner United your home, either at our weekly lunch, worship, or one of our small groups. Some required pre-trip meetings will also take place. We require students to also help fundraise (which is simple and easy), to purchase travel insurance, and read a short book written by the missionaries in Jamaica.

Cancellation – All deposits and funds are nonrefundable. However, trip insurance ensures you the ease of mind if you must cancel your trip in the case of an emergency.

More Info – Come to one of our info sessions for more information, or reply to this email with your questions.

Why the Mediterranean – Beginning with Jesus’ early disciples, Christianity expanded over the Mediterranean Sea to other areas of the Roman Empire. The first Christians were captivated by the new idea of the resurrection of the dead and moved by the church’s attempts to assist the poor. Join Niner United on a journey to the Mediterranean to learn about the origins of our faithWhere – We will spend 14 days sailing the lovely Mediterranean aboard the Norwegian Escape, visiting Italy, Greece, Croatia, and France. Each day will feature sightseeing, land excursions, wonderful cuisine, and experiences, all rounded off with an in-depth study of how the Mediterranean mystics and martyrs influenced the world by spreading Jesus’ radical message of love and salvation.

Passports – Passports are required. The processing time is 8-11 weeks for those who do not have passports.
