February 29 – March 7
About the Trip
Our 2020 Spring Break will take place in Eleuthera, Bahamas. We will be working with Bahamas Methodist Habitat to help evacuees of Hurricane Dorian with housing repair, community development, and disaster relief ministry. We will fly from Charlotte to Fort Lauderdale, Florida and then to North Eleuthera, Bahamas. We will then drive about an hour to our location. The trip is limited to 30 UNC Charlotte students with a desire to make a difference, but no specific skills are needed for the projects.
Email email@example.com with any questions!
Cost & Funding the Trip
Students who apply and are accepted to the trip will pay $750 if you apply by January 25. If spots remain, the cost of the trip increases to $850 after January 25. This cost includes lodging, food, formation and ministry expenses, ground transportation, and airfare. This does not include the cost of a passport, required trip insurance (ranging from $25 to $45 depending on the plan you chose), meals at airports you purchase on your own, and any personal expenses you make.
You must have a current passport to travel to The Bahamas. If you do not have a passport, you will have to expedite the process in order to have it ready. We will need your passport number and other information by February 19, ten days before travel. You must apply in person for a passport using Form DS-11. We suggest that you use UNC Charlotte’s Union Station which allows students to walk-in to apply. Bring a photo ID, your birth certificate, the DS-11 form, and cash. More information is available on their website.
There is a two-step process to travel with Niner United. First you must complete an application that helps us understand your readiness to serve and tells us about you, your desires and goals. Once accepted, then you will register for the trip with a deposit. Apply here!!
We will depart from Charlotte Douglas International Airport and fly to Fort Lauderdale, Florida. From there, we will fly to North Eleuthera, Bahamas. We do not arrange for transportation to and from the Charlotte airport. You should plan to be at the Charlotte airport at 5:30am. We will meet at American Airlines kiosks near security checkpoint B. Once ticketed, everyone will be responsible for getting through TSA and to the gate on their own.
We will be staying at Camp Symonette in James Cistern. It is a dorm style camp with bunkbeds. We will have access to AC at night while sleeping.
You should try to limit yourself to one carry-on suitcase and one personal item. Niner United does not cover the cost for you to check your bag. We will bring one bag that will have sunscreen, bug spray, and any other essential items that would need to be be checked. The camp that we are staying at will provide sheets, bath towels, washcloths, and a pillow.
