Mexico City

February 29 – March 7

About the Trip

Our 2020 Mexico Spring Break will take place in both Mexico City and the areas south of Mexico City toward Puebla. The 2017 Puebla earthquake struck with an estimated magnitude of 7.1. 370 people were killed by the earthquake and related building collapses, including 228 in Mexico City, and more than 6,000 were injured. While there we will be working on a church in Mexico City badly damaged in the earthquake. South of the city on the way to Puebla, we will work at a children’s camp and assist with medical and dental care in Tepetlixpa, a small town that sits at the base of one of the world’s most active volcanoes: Popocatépetl.  The trip is limited to 37 UNC Charlotte students with a desire to make a difference, but no specific skills are needed for the projects as we will be assisting professionals.

Cost & Funding the Trip

The total cost for this trip is $950. The cost includes lodging at the church, food, formation and ministry expenses, ground transportation, and airfare. This does not include the cost of a passport, required trip insurance (ranging from $25 to $45 depending on the plan you chose), meals at airports you purchase on your own, and any personal expenses you make.

If you need a passport you will need to allow yourself 4 to 6 weeks, meaning you need to apply before the end of this semester to ensure the airline has your passport information 30 days in advance of our trip. More info on getting your passport here.

Our goal is to fundraise to get this trip to a much lower cost per student. You can also fundraise as well. We know fundraising can be difficult. That’s why we do everything we can to keep your personal fundraising requirements as low as possible. Even if the trip costs are too high, Niner United provides you with tools to raise the necessary funds. This can be an opportunity to invite others to join our mission who are unable to serve in such a way as actually going with us.

Apply Now

There is a two-step process to travel with Niner United. First you must complete an application that helps us understand your readiness to serve and tells us about you, your desires and goals. Once accepted, then you will register for the trip with a deposit. Apply here!!
